Curators that do not believe in material things

On the highlighted black box, the interviewer asks this curator if she collects art. She replies “No, I do not feel attachment towards material things”. In the middle column, the article explains how her next project consists of a new show to promote “young illustrators, with direct selling and pieces under a thousand euro, to ‘promote art collecting’”.
I do not mean to attack this lady. I do not know how she put it, and I do not know how the magazine edited this. Pretty much everyone finds themselves having to compromise their personal believes in their professional lives. And maybe that’s absolutely fine. But there’s still that old saying of “leading by example”. How can you sell art if you don’t believe (and that’s the wording) in it?
You might agree with me that if the curator shown here doesn’t believe in art collecting she could conceive new types of shows, which would help creating new scenes and proposals. Or at least not mention her conviction against art collecting in the same interview she uses to promote it.
Anyways, one of those pieces that give the whole sector a bad name.
PS: And I’m going to try to come up with a more positive tone for the next post.
